I have made great progress in the completion of my Final Product. My time in the Independent Study and Mentorship program has been spent analyzing the Scope and Sequence, adding in curriculum, and creating activities for the handout. As I continue to work on my project, my excitement for the future grows.

This past week I had the opportunity to go on a cruise to Mexico. As we drove around the town, we passed multiple elementary schools and saw many children in their uniforms at the parks. Although we were not able to get out and interact with these sweet kids, one thing I noticed by just driving by is that the conditions in the Mexico schools are not nearly as advanced as what we have in the United States. I have a new sense of appreciation for the Frisco ISD Bilingual Program. This program offers these families the proper schooling that they deserve. Many of the families move from places like Mexico where the money is minimal and the conditions are not safe. Frisco ISD gives these kids the opportunity for a future.

I have had experiences this past week that have changed how I view the families of the bilingual program. I have a new sense of excitement when working on my handout. I know what these families came from, where they are now, and how they need help. After my trip to Mexico, I will use the experiences I had there to motivate me in my Independent Study and Mentorship journey.
