This past week Independent Study and Mentorship consisted of reflecting on our presentation and making progress on our Final Product. At the beginning of the week, Mr. Spiece posted our Original Work presentations so that each student can watch them and reflect on how it turned out. After watching the video, I have noticed both positives and negatives in my presentation. My speech was interesting and held the audience’s attention throughout but I also preformed many distracting movements and used multiple filler words as I spoke. After watching this video, I am aware of what to fix moving forward to Final Presentation Night. The week ended with one of the best mentor visits I have had so far this year in Independent Study and Mentorship.
On Friday, February 23rd, I met with Mrs. Raquel Matney to finalize the plan for my Final Product and to gather all the curriculum that I will need to include on each handout. We decided that the time frame for my project will be from the week of April 2nd to the week of April 23rd. After choosing these weeks, Mrs. Matney shared the curriculum from the Scope and Sequences, pages from the “Write Source: SkillsBook Student Edition Grade 3/Edition 1” written by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and the curriculum clusters for each week. Finally having these materials means that I can begin adding it all to the Final Product template that I made for my Original Work.
Moving forward, I will begin adding the information onto the handout and will start creating each activity. This process is exciting and I am ready to begin. I believe that at the end of all this, I will be able to look back and see that I have made a difference in the lives of the Christie Elementary bilingual third-grade class.
