This week I gained knowledge that will help open the door to success. I was introduced a new world of methods of study that will help me find accurate, reliable, and helpful sources for research in the ISM program. Mr. Spiece also taught how to build a successful resume for future job applications. This week was useful and left me feeling prepared for the year.
On Thursday, Reedy High School's librarian, Mrs. Lambert, came to teach how to find reliable sources in databases. In this program, using databases is the preferred and only method of online research provided, as Google is not a reliable source when it comes to finding articles and journals over fields of study. Mrs. Lambert explained the in's and outs of data bases along with the importance of their use. She also provided us with short cuts she created specially for ISM students. This resource, as I quickly discovered, will help me improve my assignments and find more research to help me grow as a future bilingual elementary education teacher.
This past week I also learned how to make my first resume. As interviews and mentor visits are quickly approaching, making a clean cut, practical, and beneficial resume is crucial to finding a mentor. My resume highlights information about me that will prove why I am a good fit for this career. Building it made me realize the characteristics I have that will help me succeed, along with ones that I need to strive to make better. Although I am only a high school student, my resume will prove how prepared I am for the future opportunities in ISM.
This past week was crucial to my development of becoming successful in my preferred field of study. Based on the skills I learned this week, I can use them to further my knowledge and gain experience in the bilingual education field. In the upcoming week, I am prepared and determined to use what I learned this week to achieve my goals in the near future.
