Although this week was short, I accomplished a great amount of work. This week, not only did I complete my display board for the Independent Study and Mentorship Research Showcase, but I went on a mentor visit at Christie Elementary. As this week comes to a close, I feel very accomplished and prepared for my future.

The beginning of the week began with working on my display board. After multiple trips to Hobby Lobby, I finally had all the materials for my board. With help from my mom, I created the board and I am proud with the turnout. My favorite feature on the board is the fact that the title of every aspect is written largely in Spanish with the English title underneath it. Not only will this catch people's eyes, but it represents the main aspect of bilingual education. Having my board in both English and Spanish is very important to me. I ended the week by going on a mentor visit on Friday afternoon. I observed the class for two hours as they practiced reading passages and answering questions about them. This skill is a very important part in the STAAR test the class will take later in the year. During a section of class, the students were individually reading on an app called “Epic” on the iPads. While they were reading, Mrs. Matney pulled a boy up to do his half year point test. This test is used to see the progress he is making and tell Mrs. Matney what she needs to do to help him improve. It was fascinating to see how his scores compared to those from the beginning of the year. After class, I stayed after and showed Mrs. Matney the progress I have made so far. She told me that it looks great so far and she agreed to send me the Math curriculum and a list of online resources. The three hours I spent there taught me a large amount of information and helped me understand how to move forward in my original work.

All in all, this short week was very successful. I was very focused on ISM this week and I got a good amount of work done. I am excited and nervous for the weeks coming up. As I prepare for the Mentor Showcase, I hope and pray that I do all it needs to end the night with a good feeling. I am excited and ready for the rest of the year.
