The activities from this week consisted of completing my Independent Study and Mentorship portfolio and continuing to make code calls to professionals. The jobs we did in class this week sent an excited feeling throughout the program. Each student this week began to open up their eyes to the in and outs of the professional world and learned different techniques that will help them succeed.
The building of my ISM portfolio was a huge step for me. As we began to prepare for the Business Symposium that will take place next week, the reality of what I get to experience in this class set in even more. In less than a week I will be surrounded by my fellow classmates as we meet a variety of different professionals from all different types of study. This is very nerve wracking for me but I have confidence that it will bring me one step closer to finding a mentor and reaching success in ISM. Not only did we build the portfolio, but we continued making code calls to find interviews. This is harder than expected. I learned that it is difficult to reach a professional at their place of work and successfully and effectively explain who you are and why you are calling. Thankfully, after a few rough calls, I began to get the hang of it. I have not gotten an interview yet but I am determined to get one in the upcoming week. The skills I learned this week will help me in the upcoming weeks ahead.
Moving forward from this week, I am ready to continue my journey in the Independent Study and Mentorship program. The things we did this week have helped me grow as not only a person but as a student and professional as well. The business symposium that is coming up in the upcoming week will be a great way for me to showcase all I have learned so far and to attain more knowledge about how to improve.
